Lights went off, smoke filled the entrance and models took to the runway in creations that blew us all away.
On Thursday I attended the fashion show for the astounding designer, Furne One. His collection titled "I am the Queen", featured 33 stunning garments, so perfectly constructed, accesorised and styled, it left everyone in awe. Furne also designed all of the accesories used including the shoes, which were constructed using Pallucina wood.

Garments in hues of gold and ivory, in a mixture of materials consisting of soft tulle, french lace and linen, were all used to create these exquisite pieces that were heavily embellished with Swarovski crystals. Models also donned long extensions representing horse manes, head pieces inspired by the Elizabethan era, as well as band-aids and neck and back braces that symobolised war wounds.

In his press conference, Furne said "It's not just the design, it's the whole concept. The theme, makeup, choreography, accessories. If you remove all the accessories it's a basic dress. It's all in the styling."

STACIE MAY

THURSDAY: DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT

photograph by Erika, TREND Staff Photographer
Local Designer Stacie May is not only an amazing designer, but an amazing person as well! Last night at our Launch Party, she was sweet enough to bring along some samples of her clothing that we featured in our magazine! Here, she is donning one of her very own creations. I must say, her collections are very neat. They are retro, modern, vintage and sharp. We love Stacie May!

Dining Open House Sponsors

As there are prizes for Best Chef and Best reviewer every month, we would like to seek sponsorship from hotels (Best Chef of the Month to have a culinary lesson with the hotel chef)and restaurants (Best Reviewer of the month gets to dine at your restaurant)

What's in it for sponsors? Why, an editorial piece on your venue under our Fabulous Finds section of course!

Sponsors should have the "Halal" certificate or at least be pork-free.

Dining Open House Menus

MENUS

Calling all Diners for an Open House Dining experience

You've seen all those TV programmes featuring guests going to eat at strangers homes and wonder what it's like. Well, wonder no more! We're now introducing this sort of "match-making" service for you adventurous gourmet food junkies out there! (you get to eat in comfort as there won't be any cameras sneaking up on you!)

Here's how:

You pick the menu or menus you like, pay your money to us, and we'll give you the details to head to a host’s house to enjoy a fantastic meal, with a bunch of new friends.

Simply browse the menus on the Open House Dining Menus post (which we hope we'll be getting soon from budding chefs!), pick the one you want, making sure the date suits you too. When you’ve decided which menu gives you hunger pangs, send us an email with your contact details on our website's contact page (www.bestevents-asia.com). We will contact you, you send us the ticket fee, and we'll give you the details!

Wine is not included, and as diners you are requested to ‘bring a bottle’ as with most dinner parties (for those who don't consume alcohol, bring along sparkling grape juice if you like)

You will enjoy a three course meal supplied by the chef, cooked with loving care and attention (we hope!). We believe RM40 is a pretty good rate for that.

Please also state in your mail if you have allergies, or if you have specific dietary requirements. We can’t promise that everyone’s needs are covered as this is a public event, but we’ll do our utmost to try and encourage the options to be as varied and inclusive as possible.

Calling all chefs for a new Open House Dining Experience

Alright! So you see yourself as a budding chef and would like to prove it! Here's how:

You should present a three course menu – how you choose to do this is down to your creativity, and you may choose to spend more or less than the sum paid to you by the organisers.

The dinner parties will be for groups of four or six (or any higher multiple of two but not including yourself or your partner), so please state how many you are able to cater for. As a chef you are not required to provide wine and diners are asked to bring that themselves if they like.

Here's your chance to show off your culinary skills (and be ready for criticism!) while making new friends!

WHAT TO DO:

You should start by registering with on our website's contact page (www.bestevents-asia.com), and we will contact you to let you know what to do next. Once registered we will publish your menu and street location, but not your name. Please give yourself a pseudonym – whatever you like but no smut please!

Diners will select their chosen Open House Dining experience by menu, to help make sure you meet new people, not just your pals!

We are keen to ensure allergy awareness and safety for all hosts and guests, so please when submitting your registration, let us know if you have pets, whether you are likely to use nuts etc. We are particularly interested in hosts who wish to offer nut-free, wheat-free, kosher, halal, vegan or vegetarian menus… There are plenty of guests who will appreciate that. Also please state if you can offer disabled access to your home.

There is a one-off RM25 registration for all chefs and you will receive a contribution of RM25 per guest for the dinner.

Once we receive your registration form we’ll be in touch to wrestle your registration fee out of you and publish your dinner dates and menus. You may throw as many parties as you like, and you may vary the menus or create a different one each time. You mad fool.

All guests are subject to Terms & Conditions

Please include these details in the contact form message box:

Your name
Your email
Your special secret chef's name
Your phone number
Do you have pets
Do you have disabled access
Will you offer a specialist menu ie kosher, halal, vegan, nut free
Your 3 course menu (with short description)
What dates can you offer
How many guests will you have

Simple eh? Well, good luck then!

PANDORA : Unforgettable Moments

Pandora Launch Event

I was invited to attend the launch of the internationally renowned jewelery brand, Pandora, in Dubai, to celebrate the opening of their first 2 stores in the country. The event was attended by Dubai's elite crowd, that lounged on white leather sofas and sipped on champagne as they inspected the fine jewelry collection.

Photobucket

One of Pandora's designers, Lee Anthony Gray, attended the event and spoke to guests about the exquisite creations in the Love Pods and Liquid Silver collections.

Pandora also flew in their Murano craftsmen, who crafted charms for the guests right in the middle of the event. Truly an amazing sight of craftsmanship.

The highlight of the evening was an exclusive showing of an evening gown that is the result of a collaboration with Danish fashion designer, Jesper Hovring. The dress is embellished with 650 charms in 14K gold. It was revealed for the first time in the Middle East and is worth a whooping $200,000USD.

Here are some of the snaps i managed to get off the dress after chasing the model (who was then nice enough to pose for me)

French Sole returns prices to the same as 1989

To celebrate its 21st year, French Sole is rolling back its prices to the same as they were at the launch in 1989. This is a token of appreciation to customers who first supported the brand when it launches as a mail order business with only a handful of styles. Customers are encouraged to visit the store at 61 Marylebone Lane to buy the full range and collection of shoes with prices ranging from £25.00 to £45.00. This will take place from 1 November until the end of December.

A Dash of Culture

UCSD's Best Dressed
Discovered by: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer

Name: Lilia
School: Sixth College
Major: Art History
Spotted at: Mandeville

Outfit:
Chocolate Colored Boots: Ross
Embossed Leather Purse: "I bought it in the mercado (shops) near the pyramids in Mexico"
Blue Jeans: Target
Scarf: The Metropolitan Museum
Earrings: Old Town San Diego
Hair Pin: UCSD Bookstore
Other Jewelry: Street Fairs or Farmer's Markets

Take on her own fashion:
"I try to implement different cultures into my outfits. It is what makes fashion both fun and personal. I don't like the mannequin look. I don't like rigidity. I want something that is subtle, but will make people look twice."

I often see Lilia around and she never fails to wear something new and interesting. All her outfits include eclectic accessories and clothing that somehow look perfect together. In this outfit, she has two different pairs of earrings on and it suits her well! I also feel that her thick black curly hair always acts as an accessory to her solid, smart looking outfits: especially with the vintage hair pin placed in it.

{Appleton} Wisconsin

A 5 Letter Design photo tour around the river, downtown.  I loved capturing the colors of fall and the misty, fog that was overwhelming the city.  There were fantastic organic materials mix in with industrious bits and pieces.  We got up close and personal with some of the details of the day.  Take a look!

Dubai Fashion Week: Falguni & Shane Peacock S/S 2011

Falguni & Shane Peacock S/S 2011

Designer Duo, Falguni and Shane Peacock, took to nature with their Spring/Summer collection, that featured loud digital prints patterns layered over one another to create wild animal patterns. The inspiration came form extiinct animals, namely bees and tigers, form which they took elements of structure and pattern to work into their prints.
The carefully structured garments featured shoulder pads and lots of leather, which appeared relentlessly over shades of yellow, nude pinks, deep blues and crimson. Constructed prints received a finishing of leather piping, rivets, chains and sequins, on a mixture of fabrics including lycra, chiffon, net and feathers.
The dresses were vibrant and loud, with just a little more than a sprinkling of jewel encrusted embellishments.
Although it kinda hit me as a bit McQueen-ishy, only a little, this collection is definitely a winner and a great addition to the Dubai Fashion Week lineup.
