British Hairdressing Awards 2011 announce nominations

The nominees for the British Hairdressing Awards have been announced. From a selected group of industry experts, beauty journalists and international trade press, eight hairdressers have been nominated for the British Hairdresser of the Year Award.

The nominated hairdressers are:

Andrew Barton - previous winner of British Hairdresser of the Year 2006, this is Andrew’s eighth nomination.

Errol Douglas - the 15th nomination for Knightsbridge salon owner Errol Douglas, previous winner of Afro Hairdresser of the Year 1993, 1995 and 2007.

Tim Hartley - this is Tim’s second nomination.

Mark Hayes - the third nomination for Mark Hayes, International Creative Director of Sassoon.

Gary Hooker & Michael Young - this is the fourth nomination for owners of salon group Hooker & Young, collectively six times winners of North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year and Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technicians of the Year 2006.

Akin Konizi - twice winner of British Hairdresser of the year in 2008 and 2009, Artistic Director for HOB. This is Akin’s sixth consecutive nomination.

Mark Leeson - this is Nottinghamshire salon owner Mark’s first nomination. Mark is a previous Winner of Eastern Hairdresser of the Year 2004, 2005 and 2006, and Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technician of the Year in 2007.

Angelo Seminara – current British Hairdresser of the Year, Angelo also won the title in 2007. He has also won Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year in 2000, 2003 and 2004.

In the British Hairdressing Awards 27 year history there have only been 15 hairdressers who have been awarded this title including Trevor Sorbie, Anthony Mascolo, Irvine and Rita Rusk, John Frieda, Andrew Collinge, Nicky Clarke, Charles Worthington, Umberto Giannini, Beverly C, Mark Hill, Antoinette Beenders, Lisa Shepherd, Andrew Barton, Akin Konizi and the current British Hairdresser of the Year Angelo Seminara.

The 2011 British Hairdressing Awards is presented by Hairdressers Journal International and sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional. The winners in all sixteen categories will be announced an awards ceremony and dinner on 28 November (See DIARYdates).

Guy Kremer & Charlie Le Mindu to show at 2011 L’Oréal Colour Trophy Grand Final

On 4 July the 2011 L’Oréal Professional Colour Trophy Grand Final will take place at Grosvenor House, London. The audience will see 42 grand finalist salon teams from across the UK take their talent to the catwalk before finding out the 2011 winners. There will also be two shows from renowned stlists Guy Kremer and Charlie Le Mindu.

Awards up for grabs include the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy Award and L’Oréal Professionnel Men’s Image Award alongside the Mizani Afro Catwalk Award and the L’Oreal Professionnel Young Colourist Award. The event will be also be shown across the internet via Facebook and Youtube the following day (5 July).

Jamie Stevens appointed to Matrix Global Design Team

Celebrity hairdresser of the year and UK Matrix Artistic Director, Jamie Stevens, has been appointed to the Matrix Global Design Team.

The Matrix Global Design Team, who provide education to stylists and salon owners worldwide, now contains 15 individuals, including seven from the UK. Jamie joins the likes of Errol Douglas MBE in the team, who contribute with product development and collaborate on shoots which become Matrix collection images used in salons and advertising.

Falguni & Shane Peacock and Fusion Three Sixty join forces with the L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2011

L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy 2011 has announced the 2011 designer collaboration with Falguni & Shane Peacock and Fusion Three Sixty. The designers will be showcasing a mix of the SS11 collection and pieces taken off the AW11 London Fashion Week runway.

This bespoke show will be part of the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy Regional tour happening across seven venues throughout the UK and Northern Ireland during April. The show will be spilt into three sections and will include a collection of exclusive pieces worn by Cheryl Cole, Katy Perry and Nicole Scherzinger. Competing hairdressers nationwide will compete in a bid to seize the professional award, now in its 56th year.

TONI&GUY and essensuals collaborate for National Hair Day

Celebrating the 8th National Hair Day, hairdressers from TONI&GUY and essensuals salons nationwide are collaborating to style the nation’s hair on 6 March as part of a campaign to raise money for the TONI&GUY Charitable Foundation.

James Brown, Jo Elvin and Abbey Clancy to star in new TV show

Hairdresser and style commentator James Brown will star in a new TV series, Great British Hairdresser, which begins on E4 on 28 February and will run for ten weeks. Ten hairdressers from across the UK will compete in the competition for the title of Great British Hairdresser. James will be joined by Jo Elvin, editor of Glamour magazine, and model Abbey Clancy as they put contestants through a series of fashion-based weekly challenges. From creating styles that compliment Lily Allen’s new vintage fashion collection, to working against the deadlines of London Fashion Week. James and Jo will also invite celebrity friends along to help in the show including Dannii Minogue, Jaime Winstone, Sadie Frost and Vidal Sassoon.

Winners announced at the 26th British Hairdressing Awards

Last night at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Park Lane, the winners of HJ’s 26th British Hairdressing Awards were announced. Angelo Seminara was honoured with the top prize of 2010 British Hairdresser of the Year. Each year hairdressers from all over the UK prepare entries for one of the sixteen categories. There are nine regional categories covering all areas of the UK, six specialist categories, which include Afro, Men’s, Newcomer, Artistic Team and Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year, along with the Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technician of the Year, and British Hairdresser of the Year. Hair Magazine Award Winners 2010

Hair magazine has announced the winners of its annual awards. T4's Jameela Jamil and Rick Edwards (pictured) were the hosts for the evening, while singer Paloma Faith DJ’d at the party which took place at the Vinyl Factory in Soho. Last nights ceremony, which was the 5th, recognised the best hairdressing talent in the industry - both new salons plus stylists. Some of the winners included John Frieda who was awarded a Special Recognition award. This award recognised an individual or organisation within the hair industry who has helped to make a difference to the lives of others through their hairdressing skills and contacts. HAIRaising, which John Frieda founded has done just that. He started the charity and persuaded a host of leading hairdressers and salons around the UK to raise money for much needed operating theatres at Great Ormond Street hospital. Leading magazine for the UK hairdressing industry Creative HEAD revealed the winners of its Most Wanted and It List awards at a ceremony in central London last night. In the surroundings of Lawrence Hall, this event saw the conclusion of two of the industry’s most innovative competitions: the honouring of hairdressers in the annual Most Wanted awards; and for the first time, the recognition of under-30’s in the brand new It List awards.

L´Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy Awards 2010 winners announced

The L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy Awards 2010 took place last night at the Grosvenor House Ballroom, London. This is the longest running and most prestigious annual hairdressing competition in the UK dedicated to hair inspired by fashion.
