GO City Girl - a new online destination for London women

GO City Girl is a new online destination aimed at women in London. This is a new social networking site that enables users to shop online together using an integrated online shopping experience. Lifestyle functions and services are covered; from job-hunting to flat-hunting, to gossip and entertainment news.

GO City Girl, which went live in April, was founded in 2010 by a team of women who spotted a need for a portal catering to women getting the most out of city life. The result is a one-stop site that aims to meet the demands of busy women concerned with style and substance.

The site‘s design is built of individual widgets – interactive tools which include:
GO Clubs – to get on guestlists
GO Fashion – a London fashion blog section
GO Gossip – celebrity scoops
GO Shopping – browse and buy the latest styles

Shortlist Media's new digital brand, Emerald Street, details confirmed

ShortList Media have announced the forthcoming launch of a new digital brand; Emerald Street. This is an illustrated daily update email for career-focused women, created by the journalists and editors of Stylist. The service will have a nationwide reach and relevance from launch, with five weekly, regionalised Weekend Guides.

Emerald Street has been through research and technical development over the last six months, with focus groups and online users testing versions of the email, allowing the editorial team to develop the concept.

Running the daily service is online editor Anna Fielding. Taking the role of Associate Publisher is Olivia Smith who joins from InStyle.

Stylist’s acting Editor Susan Riley says: “Emerald Street encompasses the full breadth of content demanded by the modern, educated female audience - not only up-to-the-minute style news but also thoughtful pieces on art, culture, careers and books. With the expertise of Stylist’s 18 journalists and editors behind it, Emerald Street is a service our readers will love.”

Playgirl magazine set to launch this month

Playgirl magazine is set to launch in the UK on March 10. The new monthly magazine will include a host of fashion, health and beauty experts as well as celebrity news aimed at women and will be available from WHSmith, MMRG and selected newsagents nationwide priced at £2.99. The first issue will feature Robert Downey Jr, new film Number Four, Dominic Cooper, Tobias Menzies on stage with Keira Knightley and cover star Robert Pattinson on his new film 'Water for Elephants'.

There will also be a website, www.playgirlworld.com, that will be interactive, giving readers the power to select content and stars for upcoming issues. The official Playgirl launch will be this April in a secret London venue.

TONI&GUY and essensuals collaborate for National Hair Day

Celebrating the 8th National Hair Day, hairdressers from TONI&GUY and essensuals salons nationwide are collaborating to style the nation’s hair on 6 March as part of a campaign to raise money for the TONI&GUY Charitable Foundation.

Joining the fundraising is the TONI&GUY award-winning International Artistic Team, who will be opening the doors of the London Academy to offer cuts, colour and styles from top hairdressers in the industry, including ‘Men’s Hairdresser of the Year’ Jody Taylor, ‘Avant-garde Hairdresser of the Year’ Efi Davies and previous ‘London Hairdresser of the Year’ Cos Sakkas. The designer haircuts and bespoke colour services are on offer for a small percentage of the original prices and there is also a haircare goody bag on offer with each appointment. 100% of the proceeds from the day will go to the Charitable Foundation. Glamour Women of the Year Awards announce sponsor & new category

Condé Nast has announced that luxury jewellery brand Pandora is the new sponsor of the Glamour Women of the Year Awards 2011, which will be held in Berkeley Square Gardens on the evening of Tuesday 7 June (see DIARYdates). Award categories at this event include Film Actress, Radio Personality, Fashion Designer, US TV Actress and International Solo Artist of the Year. In addition, Pandora presents the Pandora Newcomer Award, which recognises outstanding achievement by one woman who has recently entered the limelight, whether it’s in the field of music, fashion, film or TV. Pandora’s support will include a high level presence at the awards event in June, advertorials in Glamour magazine in the build-up to the night, as well as in the issue covering all the winners. Real women star in ‘Model Free’ special October issue of Essentials

Ten real women are starring on the cover of the October issue of Essentials, which is out tomorrow. The entire issue is model and celebrity-free – from the fashion and beauty spreads, to a naked body confidence photo shoot in the health section. The nationwide search for the October cover stars started with Essentials asking readers to tell the magazine why they were amazing enough to appear on the front cover. Hundreds of women applied and a shortlist were invited to attend a casting session with the editor and style director to select who should go forward. The ten cover stars are all shapes, sizes and ages and the issue is a celebration of real women. The issue also signals the launch of a no models or celebrities on the cover rule that will apply from the October issue onwards.

The Cosmetic Executive Women (UK) Achiever Awards to honour high-flying females

Each year The Cosmetic Executive Women (UK) Achiever Awards recognises the women who are driving the beauty business. CEW (UK) in turn, provides the knowledge and networking members need to achieve successful careers. This year’s Lifetime Achiever Award goes to Andrea Jung, head of Avon, and the longest serving female CEO on the Fortune 500. Andrea Jung will be in London to accept her Award from CEW (UK) on 11 October. Other achievers on the list for 2010 include Angela Rowley, General Manager of Estée Lauder and Tom Ford Beauty in the UK and Ireland; Kate Shapland, renowned beauty editor of the Telegraph Media Group; Michelle Feeney, CEO of St. Tropez; and Sian Sutherland, Founding Partner - Chief of Mama Mio. The CEW (UK) Achiever Awards will take place at The Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel, Cadogan Place, London SW1 on Monday 11 October 2010.
