Jean Patou acquired by Designer Parfums

Designer Parfums, who specialise in the creation and development of luxury fragrances, has today (1 July) announced the completion of the acquisition of the Jean Patou business from P&G Prestige. The acquisition of Jean Patou is in-line with Designer Parfums global strategy to develop and distribute luxury fragrances and maximise the potential marketing opportunities across a wider marketplace.

The vision for the development of Jean Patou is part of Designer Parfums Managing Director, Dilesh Mehta’s overall strategy to work with and nurture some of the finest and most recognisable brands in the fragrance industry: “I am truly delighted and excited by this great addition to our collection of brands. We will re-affirm the Jean Patou heritage and credentials across our global markets and reinforce its position as one of the world’s leading fragrance houses... Jean Patou has a unique and specialised image and equity. A niche market expert such as Designer Parfums is ideally placed to ensure the brand fulfills its commercial potential.”

Jean Patou’s range of fragrances will be reproduced with original formulations, bottles, packaging and imagery. Designer Parfums will shortly announce plans for the further development of the brand.

Jarde Leto announced as face of HUGO Fragrances

HUGO Fragrances has announced the signing of American musician, actor and director, Jared Leto, as the face of its new male fragrance: HUGO Just Different. Jared is also confirmed as the face of the iconic HUGO Man fragrance – originally launched 16 years ago – and will star in new TV and print campaigns for both scents rolling out globally as of July 2011.

FiFi Fragrance Awards 2011 winners announced

The 2011 FiFi Awards took place last week at Banqueting House in London. TV personality George Lamb compered the ceremony, held in support of the industry’s charity Look Good…Feel Better, which also featured a performance by singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

For the last two years, the Fragrance Foundation has presented a special FiFi Award for innovative marketing and promotion of the industry. This year’s award went to Emma Hockley, Perfume and Cosmetics Buyer; and Harrods and Fragrance Expert, Roja Dove, for The Perfume Diaries, a celebration of the fragrance industry and its history - an exhibition and museum which attracted over 37,000 visitors. Meanwhile, there were 15 award categories which included Gucci Guilty chosen as Best New Prestige Fragrance for Women and Bleu de Chanel winning the male category.

Launch of Marie Claire Fragrance Awards & winners of Prix d'Excellence de la Beauté Awards announced

Winners of Marie Claire’s Prix d’Excellence De La Beauté Awards were last night (4 April) revealed in the Ballroom at Claridge’s. Now in its 25th year internationally and sixth year in the UK, the awards were hosted by presenter Christine Bleakley alongside Marie Claire’s editor-in-chief, Trish Halpin. The winners were selected by a panel of the UK’s best beauty journalists, including Marie Claire’s beauty and style director, Lisa Oxenham.

The winners were:
Best Beauty Care - Olay Regenerist 3 Point Super Serum
Best Make-up - YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick
Best Ethical - Clarins Gentle Beauty Soap

The monthly consumer magazine also announced the launch of the Marie Claire International Fragrance Awards. These awards will be chaired by Lisa Oxenham, with a panel of independent beauty editors and writers judging British winner of the awards. The winner will be the fragrance that is judged to have the best scent, bottle and innovation and creativity of all fragrances launched in the last year. Marie Claire’s August issue will feature the international winners and the British winner.

Jo Malone announces new brand Jo Loves

Jo Malone has announced the creation of new fragrance brand Jo Loves. The brand is set to launch in Autumn 2011, with product and stockist details expected to be announced in May. Jo Loves is Malone's first venture since her departure in 2006 from her role as Creative Director of the eponymously titled brand sold to Estée Lauder in 1999. Contact.

Jasmine Awards 2010 winners announced

The Jasmine Awards, the UK’s awards for journalists writing on the subject of fragrance, were held today at BAFTA, London W1. Presiding over the event were the Chairman of the Jasmine Awards 2010-2011, Emmanuelle Noyer, Managing Director of Guerlain UK, and Peter Norman, Chairman of The Fragrance Foundation UK.

The 2010 judges were: industry expert Catherine Mitchell of IFF; Elizabeth Fagan, Marketing Director of Boots; prize-winning author Sara Wheeler; Willie Walters, Head of the MA Fashion Course at St Martin’s; womenswear designer Graeme Black and the milliner Cozmo Jenks. They decided that the winners in eight prize categories were:

Tania Sanchez for “Essence of Summer” in Psychologies magazine, July 2010.

Jasmine Literary Award (news press):
Michael Bywater for “Scents and Sensibility” in The Independent, 31 August.

Jasmine Visual Award:
Harrods Magazine for “Fleurs du Mal”, in the September issue. Photographer Patrice d'Hotman de Villiers illustrated the article written by Tony Marcus. Patrice was also last year’s winning photographer.

Best Practical Guide to Fragrance:
Joint winners of the award were Catherine Turner & Evie Leatham for their article “On the Scent Trail” in November’s Easy Living magazine.

Coty Prestige announces the face of Bottega Veneta's first women's fragrance

Coty Prestige, a division of Coty Inc., announced today that it has signed an agreement with Nine d’Urso to be the face of Bottega Veneta’s first fragrance for women, to be unveiled in July 2011. Nine d’Urso is the French-Italian daughter of the French fashion icon Inès de la Fressange and the late Italian businessman and art merchant Luigi d’Urso. The agreement with Coty marks the first time that d’Urso has represented a brand of any kind. Nine d’Urso has signed on to do print ads for the Bottega Veneta fragrance for a worldwide campaign photographed by Bruce Weber. The Bottega Veneta fragrance, whose name and scent will be announced at a later date, will be on counter in September 2011.

Ormonde Jayne opens London boutique

Following a successful year with an exclusive launch in Harrods and a award nomination by The London Magazine for Great Little Shops 2010, later this month London based niche perfumery, Ormonde Jayne will open its new London boutique just off Sloane Square. This will be the first Ormonde Jayne store outside of its flagship store in Old Bond Street, London. The new perfumery is part of the existing old General Trading Store on Pavilion Road, just off Sloane Square. It will have the same design as the flagship Mayfair store designed by Caulder Moore, who created Ormonde Jayne’s London store in October 2006.

Floris introduces fragrance experiences for Valentine´s Day

For Valentine’s Day 2011, Floris has created four different fragrance experiences. Ranging from £55.00 to £2500.00, each experience includes a consultation with the Floris perfumer.

The introductory experience - the Fine Fragrance Personal Shopper - includes a 30 minute consultation, time to explore the collection to find an ideal scent and help making a decision. The Limited Edition Experience, priced at £80.00, also includes a 30 minute consultation, a guide to discovering the secret of the limited edition collection and a 100ml limited edition Eau de Parfum and certificate of provenance. Floris’ Fragrance Customisation, priced at £120.00, allows visitors to choose from either the Fine Fragrance or Limited Edition collections and the perfumer will then add new ingredients to personalise the chosen fragrance. This experience also includes a 90 minute consultation with the perfumer and a custom blended 100ml Eau de Parfum with certificate of provenance.

The final experience offered by Floris is the Bespoke Perfume Design priced at £2500.00. This includes the creation of a signature perfume as well as a full consultation with the perfumer who will determine the profile and direction to take the design. This includes a minimum of three consultations over a six-month period Using rare essential oils and floral essences from around the world, the Floris perfumer will then custom blend an original fragrance which will be presented to the client with a certificate of provenance and five repeat orders.

Leighton Meester, star of Gossip Girl, signs with Vera Wang fragrances

Leighton Meester, star of the movie Country Strong and the TV show Gossip Girl, has signed on as the new face of Vera Wang's next fragrance. The advertising campaign, which will be shot by Carter Smith this weekend in Manhattan, will break Summer 2011 in fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazines. "I am so thrilled to have Leighton as the face of our new fragrance. Her beauty, talent, and spirit will inspire all the young women that I hope will enjoy this passionate, new young fragrance," says Vera Wang. The fragrance will be available in fine department stores Summer 2011.

Cosmopolitan announces winners of the Cosmopolitan Fragrance Awards 2010

Coty Inc. and Roberto Cavalli Group announce license agreement for Cavalli Fragrances starting July 2011

Roberto Cavalli Group, one of the most prestigious Italian fashion brands, and Coty Inc., a leading global beauty company, have announced that they have signed a license agreement for the creation, development, and distribution of “Roberto Cavalli” and “Just Cavalli” fragrances. The new agreement with Coty will start in July 2011, when the existing fragrance license agreement for “Roberto Cavalli” and “Just Cavalli” expires. The new license agreement with Coty, who will manage the license out of its Coty Prestige division, has the objective to further develop the presence of “Roberto Cavalli” and “Just Cavalli” fragrances internationally. The first launch of new fragrances under the new license is expected to be introduced in Spring 2012 in full selective distribution.

LACOSTE signs Alexa Chung for new female fragrance

LACOSTE Fragrances has signed style icon Alexa Chung to front its new female fragrance, launching globally in January 2011. “I’m very flattered that LACOSTE invited me to model for its new female fragrance. Natalie Portman appointed as face of Christian Dior Parfums

Christian Dior Parfums has announced that Oscar nominated and Golden Globe winning actress Natalie Portman will become the new face of Dior. This collaboration marks the first time the actress has collaborated with a perfume and cosmetics brand. Aside from her acting, Natalie has her own production company and is developing film across various genres and has raised global awareness as the Ambassador of Hope for FINCA International since 2004. FINCA is an international village banking microfinance program that provides small loans and savings programs to the world's poorest families. In turn they are able to create jobs, raise household incomes, and improve standards of living, thereby reducing poverty worldwide.

COPRA Award winners announced

The Cosmetics & Perfumery Retailers' Association (COPRA) held its annual lunch yesterday and also presented coveted COPRA Awards. There are six awards relevant to products launched during the previous year: Best New Skincare Product/Range; Best New Makeup Product/Range; Best New Male Fragrance, national distribution; Best New Male Fragrance, limited distribution; The Look Award for Best New Female Fragrance, national distribution (voted for by the readers of Look magazine) and Best New Female Fragrance, limited distribution. As well as the Gordon Whitehead Award for personal contribution to the beauty industry, the final award is the Supplier Service Award for the company that the Copra members feel has given the best and most consistent service throughout the previous year.

Bruce Willis set to launch his first fragrance

The cosmetics manufacturer LR Health & Beauty Systems is Germany’s leading network marketing enterprise for body care and beauty products - they are currently developing an exclusive fragrance for Hollywood star Bruce Willis’ first perfume. The official launch of the fragrance is planned for 1 July.
