It's Alive!!

I haven't been here for soo long and basically cuz as they say finals do get the best of you.. im done with 5 and got one more to go then im off to a 3 week vaca. in Dubai and Egypt.. looking forward to lounging around on the beach and revisiting the night scene, which im so desperatly in need of after being in saudi.

while thinking of what to take along with me on my trip i decided to start making outfits 3 weeks in advance in order to save time when i get there, then started taking photos to keep track of them and use as reference for quick dressing up.

I also realized lately that i need shoes, like lots of them..i don't feel i have enough and believe that they alone can make or break an outfit.. so im on a hunt for lots of new pretty shoes!!

My obsession with vintage stuff is increasing by the minute to the extent where i wish i could raid all the old people's closets and steal their pretty vintage beauties.

My baby(camera) is damaged, the flash got busted and i still haven't gotten it fixed so i haven't been taking photos of anything, and i think the lack of photography is starting to get to me, i will take it hopefully today or tomorrow to get checked out :(

Mental note to self: Don't abandon blog!!

Illustration Friday ~ Time

How fitting that the Illustration Friday prompt is something that I covet so deeply, it appears in my new art journal. Yes, that elusive thing called TIME. I just never have enough hours in the day to accomplish all I would like to get done. Time, or the lack thereof, makes a few appearances in my journal...amazing that I had any TIME to get that journaling done. If not for the wonderful class by Pam Carriker over at Creative Workshops, I never would have taken the TIME to indulge in this joy known as art journaling. Yes, it is very important that in the midst of our busy lives we make TIME for ourselves and the activities that we enjoy.

New Workshop

My dear friend Pam Carriker is offering another class over at Creative Workshops.

"A 3 week journey into the timeless art of Moleskine Journaling. We will use 'Shades of Grey' Pitt Pens, Caran d'ache watersoluble crayons and black & white images to create pages worthy of a Moleskine's handcrafted covers. This class will consist of 3 video demonstrations and a collage sheet download. Come and explore the possiblities with me starting March 23rd. Registration is now open."

Sounds like fun to me and I can vouch for Pam's ability to teach an awesome workshop. See you there!

Bee Happy

In my eager anticipation of Spring and all that comes with it, I offer this collage entitled, "bee happy." I will also be submitting it as my piece for the METSY (Mixed Media Etsy Team) Flower Challenge.

Oh, how I long to see the purple coneflowers in my garden again. What is it about Spring that you long for?

This collage is available in my Etsy shop.

Journal Pages

With a sick child to care for this week, it was awfully nice to have some "portable artwork," in the form of my journal, to work on. On some of the pages I wrote favorite quotes; on other pages I just wrote random thoughts, phrases or words. Being new to art journaling it is a bit difficult to come up with "something to say," but it is all a learning process...and one that I am enjoying immensely. Thank you, Pam.

Artful Undergarments

I'm tickled!!! and just have to share a couple of links about making artful things out of bras. The first one is for a good cause.
The Girls Measure Up by Jackie Price
"Members of Quilters of South Carolina have created one-of-a-kind bras for Breast Cancer Awareness. The exhibit consists of forty-nine original works of art which are unique, entertaining, humorous, and beautiful to make the public aware of breast cancer, to memorialize those lost to the disease, and to honor survivors. " Go here to see all those artful bras (2 pages) and read exhibition information.

The second is a hoot ... along the lines of making those slippers from a personal hygiene product.
Bra Bag by Carol Taylor in Wales
My friends who were gifted those slippers just may get pretty bags next year. Go here to see more photos and read about Carol's making the bag pictured above. Go here to see those slippers and get instructions for making them.

The Flock Is Growing

Here's another attempt at a Red Winged Blackbird. The Luminare paints give an amazing iridescent effect to black or plain fabrics.
I had used this fabric for the colored part of the wings. Now I'm wishing that I had done less coloring with the red paints and pens. Plus, it ended up more orange than desired. I may have to try again.
After working with the plain fabrics, I needed to make a couple of brightly colored birds. Luminare H20 paints sparkle up this funky bird.
This bird sports a tail feather ... a find that was blowing across the sidewalk when I left quilting bee last Thursday. There's no paint added to the fabric of this one.
The photo of this pretty bird arrived in an email from Great Britain this morning.
Carol, its maker, says, "My bird had a date at the hairdressers today, so I could take her photo ( ribbons added ) Ignore the legs, it was all I had at the time, courtesy of my grandson's craft box and I still haven't been to the flower shop for wire. When I do get the correct wire, she'll have new legs and some friends." To see more of Carol's work go here.
