PFW: ATTENDING THE ELIE SAAB SPRING/SUMMER 2012 SHOW

Thanks to my amazing friend Ahmad I got an invite to the Elie Saab show at Paris Fashion Week last week. It was exciting attending my first show in Paris, being on the inside is definitely a different experience. Jardin de Tuileries is definitely the spot to take street style photos during PFW.
Check out some of the snaps I got during the show.

One of the highlights of the show was seeing Karlie Kloss, I think she's one of the strongest models of our time and that was made certain with her beyond fierce walk down that runway...Stunner! The other highlight was going to the Elie Saab showroom on Champs to pick up my invite the day before the show and ending up talking to the man himself as he prepared the runway mood boards with his team. Such a nice guy and an absolute fashion genius.

ArtPrize 2011 Report

ArtPrize is over ... sigh! "Imelda's Dream II" got a lot of attention and votes from among the 500,000 people who visited Grand Rapids, Michigan during those 19 days. I feel honored to have been one of 1,582 artist participants in this grand scale art event that covered over 3 square miles of the downtown, plus the botanical garden of that city, Miejer's Gardens.

Janice of Good Goods Gallery in Saugatuck hung my entry. I'm grateful that gallery is so generous to me. I was there to hand up tools and help to determine it's levelness by eye. It's surprising how much actual levelness according to a leveling tool can differ from the visual one. It's all relative to the art pieces relationship to the architecture of the building.
Between her expertise and the lighting guy who works for the DeVos Place Convention Center, it was beautifully lit.

That walkway was filled with people on the days that I spent with my piece to talk with those who were interested.
Interaction between the artists and viewers is a major goal of this event. Go here to see a video that explains ArtPrize wonderfully well.

LOOK OF THE DAY: STROLLING DOWN CHAMPS ELYSEES

Paris was incredible!!!! I'm now in super cold Germany and finally have time to sit down and blog all those photos I snapped last week. Had so many little random adventures around Paris and was lucky to have good company there, played tourist in my shorts and sneakers for a couple of days then jumped into  heels to go socialise with the fashion crowd at the Elie Saab show and enjoy dinner at  L'Avenue with Velvet Magazine's Ahmad Daabas, Savoir Flair's Haleh Nia and Masquerade Magazine's Sofia Guellaty. I even found time to sneak away to Moulin Rouge with The Fashion Network's Dora Peric. Oh Paris I do love you!

Dress: Paper Scissors, Faux fur vest: Zara, Bag: Louis Vuitton, Shoes: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Accessories: H&M and Vintage

I went out for breakfast with Dora and between then and the lunch I had with Ahmad I managed to sneak into the stores on Champs Elysees and buy a few things including these super cute Marc by Marc Jacobs mouse shoes which I'd been eyeing up in Dubai.

These two kept me well entertained in Paris <3

My Bags Are Packed...

Well, at least my art bags are packed....and that's the important stuff, right? I still have to throw together my suitcase before I pack the car for Friday's departure. I'm anxiously awaiting my arrival at Art Is...You: The East Coast Art Retreat in Danbury, CT. I'll be meeting folks I've known online for many years and I anticipate a wondrous time filled with art, laughter and dear friends!

I've crafted ATC's, from copies of an original piece, to give away at the retreat as little tokens of friendship. I chose the piece, "begin the journey," to represent this journey for me as an artist. Not simply the journey from New Hampshire to Connecticut, but the journey as an instructor at an art retreat. Up until now my teaching has been at our local art school and via my online workshops. I'm journeying into unknown waters...anxious to see what awaits! I trust others at the retreat will feel somewhat the same...and I hope they are as thrilled as I to "begin the journey."
